Servers
Run agents on your own servers over SSH.
Agents don’t have to run on your Mac. On a server they keep working when you close the lid, and the window shows them like any other: their repositories in the sidebar, their tasks in the list, their questions above the terminal.
What you need
A Linux (x86_64 or arm64) or Mac server you can reach with SSH. Cavvy connects through your existing SSH configuration and doesn’t store SSH keys:
Host build
HostName build.example.com
User you No root access and no package manager is needed on the server.
Add a server
Settings → Servers → + (Add Server…). The Server field takes an SSH alias or user@host; the hosts from your SSH configuration are listed under From your SSH settings.
If your Mac hasn’t connected to the server before, Cavvy shows the server’s key fingerprints. Check that they match, then choose Trust and Continue. SSH stores the key in your known_hosts, as it would in Terminal. If a server shows a different key than last time, Cavvy doesn’t accept it: that happens when a server is reinstalled, but it can also mean someone is intercepting the connection. If you know why the key changed, remove the old one with ssh-keygen -R <host> and connect again.
Install and Continue copies cavvyd and the cavvy command line tool into ~/.local/bin on the server, over the same SSH connection.
Keep it up to date
When the server’s cavvyd is older than the app, Settings → Servers shows Update Ready with Update cavvy…. The update restarts the background service; agents continue their conversations, shells start fresh and keep their output.
The server’s page also shows its address, its cavvyd version, whether it runs in your login session, its repositories and sessions, and offers Run Doctor, Reconnect and Remove Server.
Repositories on a server
Servers appear in the sidebar only at their repositories: a repository on a server says on build, and on build · not reachable in red when the connection is gone. Its tasks then stand under Problems with Reconnect.
Add a repository on a server with New Project… or Add Repository… and choose the server. A project can hold repositories of several machines. Tasks, setup, Done Means and the second opinion all run on the server, in the task’s worktree there.
A task across repositories runs on one server: all its parts are on the same machine.
Agents on a server
Settings → Agents has a picker for the machine. Install…, Update… and Sign In… run on the server, in a new session you can watch. Codex signs in with a device code there: open the link it shows on any device and enter the code. The other agents show their usual link.
From the command line:
cavvy --host build agents Overnight
Give out the tasks in the evening, close the window or the lid. The sessions keep running on the server, without your Mac. In the morning, Since you last looked tells you what happened, and the list what needs you and what is ready for review. See Control room.
Cavvy on Linux
The Cavvy app runs on macOS; a Linux app is coming. As a server, Linux works today.
